The problem

The plan lives in one person’s head.

Most hauliers still plan by hand, five to seven hours a day. A spreadsheet, a phone and the one person who knows how it all fits.

When that person is off sick, so is the plan.

  1. The phones start.Three cars for Galway. Two returns in Belfast.
  2. The sheet grows a tab.Which truck has space. Which car goes on which deck.
  3. A sailing moves.Half the week is rebuilt by hand.
  4. Quotes go out late.Priced from memory. No time to check.
  5. Still at the table.Tomorrow’s plan. Again. In one head.
How it works

Five steps. The last one is yours.

LayBy does the planning. You keep the decision.

  1. Enquiry in

A message, photo or voice note on WhatsApp. Or a spreadsheet. It lands as a job.

  2. Load built

Cars are placed deck by deck, in the order they come off.

  3. Route planned

Yard, pickups, drops, the crossing and home again.

  4. Priced

Checked against your own rate card. Per km, fuel surcharge, call-out.

  5. You approve

On your desk, or reply yes on WhatsApp. Then it moves.

Nothing moves without a human sign-off. Then your driver takes it from there.

The product

One desk for every vehicle you move.

01

Every job on one board.

Jobs arrive from a client, a spreadsheet or a WhatsApp message. See what is waiting, what is booked and what is on the road, as a list or on the map.

  • Collections and deliveries side by side
  • Domestic and cross-border in the same view

02

Loaded in the order you unload.

LayBy places each car on the right deck so the next drop is always on the ramp. Your driver rolls them off without shuffling.

  • Built for your trailer, deck by deck
  • A clear unload order for every stop

03

Priced against your rate card.

Set your rates once per truck. Every run and every quote is priced from them. In euro, to the cent, every time.

  • Per km, fuel surcharge and call-out
  • Weight and capacity checked before you quote

You approve. Then it moves.

LayBy drafts the decision and tells you why. You approve it, change it or dismiss it. One inbox, cleared in minutes.

  • Nothing is booked until you say so

On the road

Every stop, on the driver’s phone.

Your drivers get the run on their phone, stop by stop, in order. They photograph every car at each handover. You see the truck live.

  1. Stop by stop.

The route on a map, the next stop on top. Mark arrived and move on.

  2. A photo at every handover.

Each car is photographed before it goes on the truck and before it comes off. The record stays with the job if anything is damaged.

  3. Live to you. Private to everyone else.

You see where your truck is, all day. Your customer gets a text with the hour it will arrive, never the truck’s location.

Why it’s different

Your plan and your marketplace are one thing.

Other tools plan your runs. Load boards sell your space. LayBy does both, from the same plan. When a truck runs with an empty deck, the space is already there for a dealer or auction house to book.

Paid for space you already drive.

A half-empty run back from Cork can carry two more cars. You decide if it does.

Dealers post. You choose.

Dealerships, leasing firms and auction operators post cars. You only see what fits your lanes.

The LayBy marketplace, with open cars posted by a dealer and waiting for an operator.
